I attended a workshop about ten years ago that made
a big impression on me. On Saturday we had a breakout to focus on
identifying miracles in our lives. I was curious but uncertain about
miracles in everyday life. Aren’t miracles about angels appearing
or the result of some supernatural happenings?
During the exercise and the sharing with others, I had a shift
in perspective about the miracles of life. Now when I sit on the
deck in Colorado and a hummingbird visits my red toenails, I celebrate
a miracle. Or when I meet a deer on the path up the mountain, and
our eyes connect and hold, I am all over that miracle.
This year we experienced amazing miracles in our family. After
a bout with thyroid cancer and several miscarriages, our daughter-in-law
gave birth to a beautiful healthy baby girl named Emma. The second
miracle happened in October, when our youngest daughter gave birth
to triplet boys after spending ten weeks of her pregnancy in the
hospital. Jake, Ethan, and Austin all arrived healthy and gorgeous.
2006 will always be a year of gratitude and miracles for us.
While I pray and give thanks for those miracles, I also find little
miracles to celebrate each day. I looked out my window one frosty
morning last week to see the pansies bright and beautiful after
a freezing night. What a miracle!
I hope you experience miracles each day in 2007 and celebrate every
one!
