Once upon a time in Dallas, Texas
there was a small incorporated town,
within the city that had no library.
For years and years the citizens
had lamented and petitioned for library funding
But for years, it was to no avail.
Now in that town within a city,
there were three little girls wanting to earn
a Girl Scout community service merit badge.
One of the girls had always wished for a library,
and she asked the other two to join her on a mission,
and the three decided to create a library to earn their badges.
So three little girls dropped off hundreds of flyers,
followed by reams of donated grocery bags
on doorsteps asking for books for the library.
In the summer of 2001, three little girls,
And some of their friends,
collected 40,000 books for the town with no library.
Then Bank One gave them some space,
Donors donated generously to add furnishings, and
Volunteers catalogued and shelved the books.
Today the town has a volunteer library
that is full of wonderful books and
is open six days a week for all the people to enjoy.
The town has a library because one little girl had a vision,
and two of her friends decided to join her in creating that vision,
as a project for their Girl Scout community service merit badge.
